The same people who make an uproar about seeing women breastfeeding in public would probably see these mama animals at the zoo nursing their babies and say “Awwwww, how cute!”
I personally love nothing more than seeing the mama animals at the zoo nursing their young - have always loved this, even when I was little. I remember being as young as five becoming enamored by seeing a friend’s cat nurse her kittens. I thought it was the cutest and sweetest thing I had ever seen, and I was always trying to encourage the kittens to nurse even if they weren’t hungry.
But I’ll admit, pre-Zoe, seeing human moms breastfeed their babies used to make me feel awkward. It’s just not something we see often, so it seems private or something. The first time I went to breastfeeding group with newborn Zoebelle, I was anxious, self-conscious and didn’t know where to look. But after 22 months of it, nursing her and being around nursing mamas has become the new normal.
Hey, I like that. Breastfeeding: the new normal. I can get behind that slogan. Anyway, enjoy the adorable critter pics, which I yoinked from the always awesome Zooborns blog.
